COL John Ransone started the Fork Union Robotics team as the Fork Union Robotics club back in 2012. The club was composed of a few cadets who were interested in learning how robots work and weren't afraid to fail. The club used primarily NXT and Lego Mindstorms robotics kits. The club built a robot that was designed to find its way out of a multi-colored maze. They also built a robot that could escape a box. When CPT Shannon Gottschalk took over the robotics club in 2013, he was committed to turning the small group into a team to compete against other schools. From then on, the team began to work with the Tetrix robotics kits to build more advanced robots to be used in the FTC annual competitions. Yet, it was not always about the competition. In the post-season, the team works on building interesting robots, watching them fail, and learning from their failure to improve them. In the past post-season, the team constructed a robot designed to solve a Rubik's Cube. This upcoming pre-season, the team is planning to work on a Quadrocopter that would be able to take pictures and videos from the sky.
