Again, it is time to say good bye. I truly appreciate everyone who has paid attention to my blog for this entire term. Tomorrow, I have to go back on math. I always had an unknown momentum that keep me working hard whenever I am in @Ms. Simmons's class. It has always been my pleasure to work with her. And of course my fellow classmate @Lauris De Neef
Binary Calculator- the last assignment of this term.
I have always struggled with the assignment because it does not only require the understanding towards those method that we learned, but also being tricky. I have got all 100 on ont the Exam and Quiz since the midterm, however, I got only one 100 for the assignment. It is hard. However, assignment 7, Binary calculator, it requires: For this lab, you will enter two numbers in base ten and translate them to binary. You will then add the numbers in binary and print out the result. All numbers entered will be between 0 and 255, inclusive, and binary output is limited to 8 bits. This means that the sum of the two added numbers will also be limited to 8 bits. Your code does not have to check for or do anything if the sum is more than 8 bits. Your program should include the following methods:
Enter a base ten number between 0 and 255, inclusive. 56 Enter a base ten number between 0 and 255, inclusive. 2 First binary number: 0 0 1 1 1 0 0 0 Second binary number: 0 0 0 0 0 0 1 0 Added: 0 0 1 1 1 0 1 0 I have 58% correct at this moment I post the blog, here are what I have import java.io.*; import static java.lang.System.*; import java.util.Scanner; import java.lang.Math; class Binary{ public static int setuplist(int v) { Scanner scan = new Scanner(System.in); int p = 0; int a = 0; for (int x = 0; x<Math.pow(2,(a+1)); x+=Math.pow(2,a)) { if(x<=v) { p++; a++; x=0; } else break; } return p; } public static int[] convertToBinary(int b) { int [] convertToBinary = new int [(setuplist(b))]; //System.out.println(convertToBinary.length); for (int i = 0; i < convertToBinary.length ;i++) { convertToBinary[i] = (b%2); b/= 2; // System.out.println(convertToBinary[i]); } //convertToBinary[0] = 1; return convertToBinary; } public static int[] addBin(int a, int b) { int as = (a+b); int [] addBin = convertToBinary(as); return addBin; } public static void printBin(int b[]) { int [] c = new int [b.length]; for (int i = 0; i < b.length; i++) { c[i]=b[b.length-1-i]; if (i== (b.length-1)) System.out.print(c[i]); else System.out.print(c[i]+ " "); } } public static void main (String str[]) throws IOException { Scanner scan = new Scanner(System.in); System.out.println("Enter a base ten number between 0 and 255, inclusive."); int v = scan.nextInt(); System.out.println("Enter a base ten number between 0 and 255, inclusive."); int vt = scan.nextInt(); setuplist(v); setuplist(vt); int [] news = convertToBinary(v); int [] newst = convertToBinary(vt); // System.out.println(setuplist(v)); int [] c = new int [(setuplist(v))]; /*for (int i = 0; i < news.length; i++) { c[i]=news[news.length-1-i]; System.out.print(c[i]+ " "); }*/ System.out.println("First binary number:"); printBin(news); System.out.println("\nSecond binary number:"); printBin(newst); System.out.println("\nAdded:"); int [] newsss = addBin(v,vt); printBin(newsss); } } We deeply understand that for the past weekend, as cadet leaderships, we have disappointed so much people who had high expectation upon us. We truly apologize. We realized that our mistake was because of the lack of integrity and discipline. What we did was not only breaking a rule but also leading by exception. For what we have done the past weekend, we have to manage a new word to describe our regrets. However, we firmly believe that we have learned about integrity, discipline and leading by example by rethinking the solution of avoiding this mistake before it happen.
We all know that our team improved so fast this year, from being disqualified in the first round of qualifier to being qualified for state champion, from having none moving arm on the whole entire robot to being able to finish every single subject on the field, form forgetting to bring the engineering notebook to qualifier on purpose because of the emptiness of our notebook to being one of the finalist for think(notebook) award, from ignoring CAD design to winning the PTC design award, from separate to united. We have too much story to tell. These fantastic stories are basically what we are going to talk about in our film.
It is so spicy! I just finished half box of Blazin flavor wings that brought back by @Deneef and I cannot feel my tongue at this point of time. The first taste of blazin is not that "amazing", it feels like nothing, however, after you swallow the whole wing, you will get light up by this tiny piece of chicken wing. My nerves lost its sensitivity at the worst time.
Indeed, I was about to end my blog at this point. However, I rethought about this, then I did a research on the Blazin wings Buffalo wing chain Buffalo Wild Wings has something called the “Blazin’ Wing Challenge.” For $12.00, you get a dozen of the chain’s chicken wings, slathered in their signature “Blazin'” sauce, the top end of the heat scale in the Buffalo Wild Wings array of sauces. The challenge? Eat them all, in less than six minutes. Complete the challenge, and you get a tee shirt, and your photo on the wall of fame. Thought through this,Blazin wings does not look so different to the others wings, however, it beats all the others when you it in your mouth. I think that is a kind of character that I have desired, humble from outside, better than anyone when it involves work. I have to make this extremely hard decision at this point. Between the sport I love and worked hard for past years and the profession that I worked even harder and desire for. I have 3 weeks until FTC Virginia states champion and 5 weeks from orienteering interscholastic champion. For the past year, I gave my everything to this robotics team that I involved founding. At the same time, I worked the hardest ever during all the orienteering practice. I am so proud that I had my coach and wonderful teammates who inspired me everyday. However, my coach told me that if I can't get back in shape in time for interscholastic, he will kick me out of the varsity team. I know that if I could have 3 weeks for preparing, I will be back in perfect shape and none of them can beat me, however, I don't have 3 weeks, I have only 2. I have been worked so hard for robotics for this year that I will scarifies everything for it. We only have two years of experience and we are qualified for states champion now, that is not something that most people couldn't achieve.
I am so confuse and I feel so tired at this time of period. I am so worry about if I can keep working as hard as before. I want to achieve goals with my own talent and hard working. If my coach just put me on the varsity team that my another teammates deserve more than I do, I won't take it, because that is the professionalism that I have. It makes me feel so bad. I didn't have this kind of feeling for the past 3 years. I don't know what to do. I know that I need to make this tough decision as soon as possible because I can't keep wasting my time on decision making. I can't split my time half for them because I am so afraid that if I split my time and efforts half, I won't get any of them done. For everyone who read though, please give me advice. I think I need someone that can give me advice. On Sunday, Blue Devils robotics team finally went to state!!!!!! Here is the presentation that we presented to the judges. Here is what my coach CPT. Gottschalk said in the eamil, he siad that we have a chance!
After months of preparation and countless hours of hard work, the FUMA robotics team completed its final qualifying match of the year. Following the Blue Devils qualifier at UVA (Shenandoah), lessons were learned and strategies for success were modified and improved. Cadet Zimu Li and cadet Corey Jameson attended today’s qualifier at Orange County High School. The Blue Devils were primed to do well in their first two matches of the day but were unable to pull off a win in either of them. While Skylark scored over 200 ranking points, it was not enough for a win. Match three provided the team with some hope. Together with their alliance, they were able to win and acquire a total of 312 ranking points. The momentum continued to follow them as they completed match four, scoring 110 more ranking points with a huge assist from their alliance partner, with nail-biting win. Skylark was able to climb the rankings through the afternoon of competition. The Blue Devils reached ninth place out of twenty-six teams in their division (Kamen). In addition, their ranking points were higher than any other team with a total of 522. While their performance was a great improvement from last qualifier, they were not selected as one of the top four teams. The only hope they had for the finals was to be selected as an alliance by a winning team. The anticipation grew as each team was selected. To the Blue Devil’s surprise they were selected by team 7955 (NYX) as their first partner. The excitement was growing as the cadets prepared for their first semi-final event. They were able to strategize who would play first and how they would score points. Skylark was selected to play the second match and the pressure was on, as their alliance team was not able to put out a win in the first. In a best of three semi-final match, they were up to the challenge, yet an ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) event shot those hopes as Skylark spun out of control. Their hope to advance to states was gone, there was no rematch and the season seemed to be over. After much encouragement, the Blue Devils were able to celebrate all that they had achieved this season. Captain Zimu Li began thinking about next year and began networking with teams while the final matches commenced. The award ceremony would follow with the final tallying of points. Fork Union’s team sat with quiet anticipation as each of the judges awards were given to well deserving teams. These awards correlate with many elements outside the actual competition. They encourage academics, inspiration, good note-taking, community involvement, ingenuity and innovation, industrial design, team spirit, robot control and unique efforts. FIRST Robotics does a great job of capturing all of the dimensions that contribute to a successful season. Award Information The commentator was announcing the finalists for the PTC Design Award and the Blue Devils were on the board. Their hope was building as they saw that they could win this award. The team with the “rising bird” (skylark), was selected! Cadets Li and Jameson ran down to receive their trophy with much excitement. The team was also a finalist for the Think Award and came in second for the Inspire Award. Cadet Zimu Li was selected as semi-finalist for the Dean’s List Award. The Blue Devils accomplishments were being recognized, yet one question lingered. All of the awards had been passed and the respective teams were acknowledged; every team waited with great anticipation to see who would advance. Many notable teams were selected to move on to the state championship, yet none of them were as excited as our very own Blue Devils, team 7844. All of their hard work had paid off and this achievement is commendable. The Blue Devils robotics team would like to thank all who contributed to their success. Both the faculty and staff have been essential, providing resources and time necessary for a competitive robot. The state championship will be held on February 28, 2015, at Saint Christopher’s School in Richmond. It is generally agreed that society benefits from the work of its members.Which type of contribution do you think is most valued by your society: that of primary school teachers,artists or nurses? Why? One of the profoundest moment of impression that nurses gave me was in 2003 when they were taking care of the victims of SARS virus. 2003, when the world was sick, when primary teachers and artists were hiding from the virus, nurses were risking their life, helping victims to overcome their sickness. Indeed, primary school teachers and artists contributed plenty to the human culture, and they are both very important occupation in the society. However, nurses contribute the society by risking their own life to help others come defeat their sickness. Compare to primary school teacher and artist, nurses contributions have always been the most effective and most valued.
Many people at my age center their concerns upon the idea which is one’s motivation will be the key that lead them success. However, it is impossible even for the most talented and motivated person to success in a field without hours of practice. Bill Gates, a renowned and respected programmer, skipped college for countless hours of programming. According to the gold 10,000 hours rule, averagely, one make their world class achievement after 10,000 hours of practice. Indeed, motivation is the intention that get you start working and intelligence is the basic that you need for start working. However, after all, hardworking is the process that exam one’s motivation and intelligence and the key that will eventually lead you to success.
I personally made the decision, at age fifteen, to leave China and come to study aboard in the United States. I knew that here, I could be provided with the best opportunities as to achieve my ambitions and it didn’t take me long before I made the decision to leave all I knew behind and go on a journey that I was hopeful would one day bring me to excellence. The reason that made this decision become the most important decision in my life is not only because of the decision result me being nine thousands miles away from home, but also the process of growing and overcoming many difficulties that caused by this decision.
It wasn’t easy at first, moving from the robust metropolitan community of Beijing to the rural and compact community at Fork Union Military Academy. I was home sick, and the fact that I had to simultaneously overcome a language barrier did not make my path any smoother. It wasn’t long before I found myself in a state isolation, struggling to associate with my peers. I lacked confidence and this led to me to doubt my decision of studying abroad. It was in these times of adversity that I remembered my father say,” Hard work pays off,” and it was through his exemplified determination that I knew I could handle any difficulty thrown at me. Personally, the more I keep myself occupied, the less I mourned over the issues that I had to persevere through. I engaged myself in a multitude of activities ranging from Orienteering and Academics to Robotics and excelling within the military aspects of FUMA, specifically in reference to obtaining the rank of Sergeant. This initial base of activities helped me develop in all aspects of cadet life, ultimately, leading me to become a Lieutenant within the Corps of Cadets. |
